2018 KTU Timetable Detailed Study | Timetable Analysis

A university or an educational institution should be for the students and the country helping and encouraging students to learn more rather than denying them education. This is the current situation of APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University (APJKTU). The university which came into existence in the name of technology and increasing academic standards.

The latest timetable published by KTU also reveals the vengeance against the students. Many of the students have to write two exams in just 1 day without any study holidays.

About Timetable

KTU published the 2018 April / May examination timetable on 1st March 2018. This is the First time, the university is conducting the Regular examination and supplementary examination together. That is Students having supplementary in the previous semester have to write the supplementary during this exam.

The below lines in the image were present in the KTU notification which was published along with the timetable.

Till Now The university haven’t decided to conduct another supple after this regular and supplementary examination.

The 3 exam chances for the students who are at the brim of year out will be over after this exam.

Reasons For the Timetable being less Practical

1. Exam Schedule

According to The current time table of regular and supplementary 2018 published by KTU, Exam starts just after 11 days of the termination of the even semester.

The study leave between the exams are very low and some students are having 2 exams in a single day. Thus making this exam impossible to pass for the students.

1st Year = 12 Exams

2nd Year = 24 Exams

3rd Years = 36 Exams 

Sixth semester students are having the supplementary along with their regular affecting them the most. They are the first batch of KTU and haven’t been exposed to any of the question paper pattern before.

Instead of giving time for the students to study, the university is just playing with their future.

2. Heavy Load to the Students

The main way that the KTU university found out for increasing academic standard was through year out for the students who became eligible for engineering with a minimum pass mark of 10 marks in each paper (ie; 4 Correct answers out of 240 questions) in the Kerala Entrance Examination. This reveals the irony in increasing educational standards.

3. Short Semesters

According to KTU, 72 -75 (10 weeks) days is one semester and the current even semester of 2018 also have 77 working days.

The above 77 days is

including :- second and fourth Saturdays and public holidays.

Excluding :- Tech fest,arts day,sports,college day and other events.

Class Hour Calculation

432 Working hours

24 one hour exams (2 set series + 2 set assignment)

Lab = 6 * 13 weeks = 78 hours

Hours left for class = 432-24-78 = 330 hours (7.8 Week)

1.2 week approx = 6 Modules of 6 subjects (total 36 modules)

4. Tight Attendance

More than 18 days or 18 periods (Per subject) leave in a semester will result in attendance shortage. Being absent for the series exam may make you ineligible for writing KTU Exam. 

2 Absent session for Lab/practical can result in attendance shortage for Lab.

Medical Certificate can be submitted only twice in the whole 8 semesters. 

Even though, KTU tells lecturer are just a guide to the students then why they make this high rate attendance as a mandatory.

From the short semester and the attendance rules its clear that many of the important portions required are skipped as well as not properly covered.

5. Latest Examination Pass Percentages

Semester 1 (2018) pass percentage :- 47.88

S3 (2018) pass percentage :- 32.38

Semester 1 (2015) pass percentage :- 32.36

S1 (2016) pass percentage :- 49.12

Semester 2 (2015) pass percentage :- 46.75

S2 (2016) pass percentage :- 47.7

Semester 3 (2015) pass percentage :- 32.7

S4 (2015) pass percentage :- 35.7

The above pass percentage of the exams shows that none of the semester students in KTU could get at least 50 pass percentage.

This implies supplementary is a way for the students to pass the subjects but if the KTU Timetable is like this, it will be tougher for the students.
